Although SSP is primarily a company that sells online, our approach is much more like a traditional High Street shop – where the customer is placed right at the heart of everything we do.This means treating our customers as people, not as numbers on a spreadsheet or emails in an inbox.
We feel that we have been able to grow to the point where we now supply to over 5,000 different customers every year by offering great quality products, backed up by first class customer service. That is to say...
- If there is a problem, we will put it right
- If you need more information, please ring our fully staffed office on our local rate phone number. We will do our best to answer it.
- If you need greater technical data, again just ask.
- Finally, if you order something that doesn’t quite work for you, you can return it to us without us quibbling about giving you your money back.
Put simply we are in the business of providing solutions to problems. Whether this means providing bespoke signs, new security measures or method of safeguarding people, we will endeavour to provide a product that best suits you. Indeed, many of the products in our 10,000-strong product range have been developed as a result of a customer asking us for something a little different.
Offer cost effective, quality products that do exactly what our customers expect them to do.
To achieve this SecuritySafetyProducts ensures that:
All third party suppliers are thoroughly vetted before being appointed
All products that we bring on are thoroughly tested before they are published online
All products put online are displayed with all the relevant details and specifications to help ensure our customer knows exactly what he or she is getting for their money
All our Customer Service team are properly trained on each new product group to ensure our customer gets the best possible guidance and advice should they require any additional information
All enquiries are treated personally and with urgency. There is nothing more important to us than our customers.
Finally, if in the unlikely event that something goes wrong, we will put it right. If the fault lies with us, we will do it at our expense not yours.
Rest assured, although we have over 10,000 products available on this website, our commitment to quality products, customer service excellence and unbeatable prices remains the same today as it did when our first key fob controlled door entry system went live.

Gwyn Ewens - Director and our Ideas Man
Having worked as a Marketing Manager for the UK’s largest fire protection company for 6 years and a major safety signs manufacturer for a further 5 years, Commercial Director Gwyn specialises in safety products and printed materials. Gwyn’s whole drive is to make SSP as customer focused as possible – happy in the knowledge that if we do everything to look after the customer, they will say good things about us and come back for more.
Day to day, Gwyn focuses on developing SSP’s online proposition, introducing new products and ensuring we live up to the customer’s expectations.
Skills: Creative, methodical and customer focused at all times
Product knowledge: Gwyn’s areas of expertise includes safety and road signs, visitor books, permits to work, fire extinguishers and security screws
Hobbies and interests: Running as hard as he can for as long as he can and watching virtually any sport – rugby, football, cricket, darts, golf, rowing, croquet...in fact, virtually anything!
Some things you didn’t know: Gwyn is huge supporter of Workplace Apprenticeships. Since becoming a part owner of SSP, he has taken on a number apprentices, passing on knowledge and guidance that will hopefully stand them in good stead no matter where their careers take them. Indeed, three of the people listed below started out as apprentices here.
Also, despite being raised in Bedford, strangely Gwyn is a long suffering Aston Villa fan. Arguably this is pay back for being a glory hunter in 1981!
Johanna Cousin - Digital Marketing Assistant and SSP's Creative
Having started with SSP at the end of 2015, Johanna (or Jo as she prefers) made an instant impact. Her two key roles are adding new products to the website and producing artwork for bespoke sign customers. In many ways it is Jo’s job to make buying from SSP as easy as possible. This means she is involved in making sure our customers can find the right product for the job and gives each one the best possible description and images she can.
Product knowledge: Bespoke and custom made signs
Skills: SEO, website development, working on Open Source software to bring you the best, most cost effective signs possible
Hobbies and Interests: Is more than a little obsessed with Costa Coffee, visiting up to 14 times a week! This is the sort of customer loyalty we hope our customers have for us!
Something you didn’t know: Whether the rest of the office like it or not, Jo loves nothing more than listening to 5SOS and The Vamps whilst working on design projects. Thankfully she has the decency to do it with headphones on so no other staff member has to suffer!
Mark Hughes - Office Manager and Customer Champion
Having joined SSP in early 2014, Mark has risen through the ranks to become Office Manager. Mark is responsible for providing quotes for larger jobs, managing the customer service team, responding to online chat enquiries and advising on stock levels. In effect, Mark is critical to the running of SSP. Indeed, if something goes wrong, it’s probably Mark’s fault!
Product knowledge: Sign posts, call point covers, impact protection foam and collision barriers
Skills: Excellent customer service skills, setting pricing, managing export projects and providing large customer quotes
Hobbies and Interest: Playing football, watching football and playing football on the Xbox
Something you didn't know: Mark is an active volunteer in and around the Rochdale area.
Alistair Papworth - Sales and resident Football Pundit
Taken on as an Apprentice in 2014, Alistair quickly established himself as SSP’s front line sales and customer service person. At SSP we have a philosophy of answering the phone within 4 rings. However, Alistair gets annoyed if he cannot answer it within 1! Young, energetic and eternally up-beat, Alistair cares passionately about offering the best possible customer service.
Product knowledge: Foam Impact Protection, bike racks, security fixings and bespoke signs
Skills: Offering the best possible customer service
Hobbies and Interest: Alistair’s two biggest loves in his life are Indie music and football. We think the music is there to lift his spirits after watching his beloved Bolton Wanderers under-perform again!
Some things you didn’t know: As an aspiring young footballer, Alistair was on the books at Bolton Wanderers, Blackpool and Man City. Alistair is also utterly obsessed with the band the Courteeners.
Hayley Ewens - Operations Director and SSP’s Glue ….holding the whole thing together!
Joint owner of SSP, Hayley is the resident plate catcher. Whilst the rest of the team work hard to ensure our customers get the best possible service, Hayley is the person in the background making sure everything runs smoothly and everybody is able to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Hayley oversees everything from the finances to Human resources. Prior to SSP, Hayley spent 8 years in customer service management and training roles.
Area of expertise: Developing Customer Service training processes and finance.
Skills: Organised, methodical, structured, with a great eye of detail
Hobbies and Interest: with four very young children and a business to run there isn't much time to spare, but what is spare is filled with supporting the best band in the world (fact!).. Embrace. She has followed them all over the country and has been to several secret gigs and is very much looking forward to taking the children to their secret festival this September in Leeds!
Something you didn’t know: Hayley actively supports the charity www.Kidz2gether.org.uk a charity that supports children and their families affected by autism (ASD). Hayley is also actively involved in the ASD forum in Bolton, meeting with professionals to ensure the best outcomes are achieved.
Bethony - Accounts Assistant and Speed Demon Bowler
Although not classically trained in finance, Beth hit the ground running - bringing some much appreciated organisation and structure to accounts. With a background in sales (of all things!), Beth is also very capable in dealing with customer and supplier calls.
Area of expertise: Methodical, organised; making sure every box is ticked.
Skills: Spreadsheets, speed typing and SAGE accounting.
Hobbies and Interests: Shopping for designer brands, socialising and perhaps having the odd drink!
Something you didn't know about Beth: On the odd occasion she takes a break, Beth has proven herself to be quite some bowler in SSP's occasional game of corridor cricket. It's got to the point where grown men fear facing her ferocious in-swingers!!
Charities SSP actively supports:
The Christie, for their pioneering work in the research and treatment of cancer, and the amazing support they give to cancer suffers up and down the country:
Kidz2gether, for the truly inspirational support they give to both autistic children and their parents/carers in and around the Bolton area:
Helen and Douglas House, for the amazing respite care and support they provide to children with life-shortening conditions:
