How Pin Hex and Pin Torx Security Screws protect younger children

Any parent will tell you there is nothing more precious than their children. Whilst valuables, memorabilia and other assets in the main can invariably be replaced, your children are fundamental and utterly irreplaceable in every way.

Of course this is a strong starting point for a simple blog entitled Security News! However, it is a very real point when it comes to playground safety.

The beauty of playgrounds in the UK is they are free and open to all; whether the child is a 2 year old wanting to be pushed on a swing or a 6 year wanting to be spun at a million miles an hour on a roundabout. However, this open access is also a playground's downfall, with youths having access potentially with the motive of maliciously dismantling a climbing frame, roundabout or swing. Of course, I am not saying all older kids want to do this, but it just takes one for a serious accident to occur to other, younger, more vulnerable children.

This is something I considered as I pushed my two eldest children on a roundabout this weekend (I know, it was a Saturday – I should just forget about work for a second and concentrate on having fun with my amazing kids!). Anyway, I have got to say I was very pleased to see that the installers at my local park had employed a combination of pin hex and pin torx screws on every piece of apparatus in the playground area.

Of course using security screws like this does not make the site impervious to being attacked by someone with malicious intent. It does however stop the mindless impulse of an older youth with nothing better to do of an evening.

Furthermore, by mixing up a combination of screws in the way that my local park has done simply increases the level of security. Even if this person did have, say, a pin torx wrench he may not have a pin hex one. In effect combining the two gives the apparatus an added layer of security that, as a parent of three young girls, I am extremely appreciative of.
